About the CEU:

Do you work with clients who:
  • Are high achieving?
  • Are feeling stuck or frozen due to anxiety or perfectionism?
  • Find it hard to connect or be spontaneous?
  • Think that things must be done in a certain way and that people should behave correctly?
  • Don’t advance in therapy due to inflexibility and therapy interfering behaviors?

These are just some of the issues that describe someone who might benefit from Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RODBT).
RODBT is an evidence-based treatment that targets disorders of overcontrol such as chronic treatment-resistant depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, and anorexia nervosa. While DBT treats disorders of undercontrol and focuses on more external behaviors, RODBT treats rigid behavior and thought patterns and often helps with less obvious, but equally problematic, behaviors. RODBT has been found to be helpful for individuals who are experiencing significant difficulty with emotional expression and connection, isolation, avoidance, all or nothing thinking, perfectionism, and harsh self-judgments.

CEU Objectives:
The participant will be able to:

1. Understand the difference between DBT and RODBT.
2. Identify key questions to help assess for overcontrolled characteristics.
3. Understand the importance of social signaling.
4. Take away two core RODBT skills to use with clients.

About the presenter:
Rachel received her masters in social work from UT Austin and has been a practicing therapist in Austin for over a decade. Rachel created and facilitated the first RODBT IOP in the state of Texas and is the first intensively trained RODBT clinician in Austin. Rachel currently runs several RODBT skills groups and provides RODBT informed couples therapy. Rachel owns a small group practice where all of the clinicians have some level of RODBT training. Rachel is also a Certified Gottman Couples Therapist and specializes in working with couples where one or both partners may be overcontrolled, have OCPD traits, or are neurodivergent.
